Higher Diploma in English / Chinese Translation and Interpretation
(Note: Programmes are structured for working adults and offered in part-time mode)
Structure and Content
The Higher Diploma programme consists of 19 modules and can be completed in 36 months.

♦ Principles of Translation
♦ Basic Translation Practices
♦ Principles of Interpretation
♦ Basic Interpretation in Practice
♦ Advanced Reading, literature and Comprehension
♦ Information Technology in Translation and Interpretation
♦ Cross Cultural Media Studies
♦ Advanced Translation in Practice
♦ Presentation Skills
♦ Technical Writing
♦ Elective Programme-work place
♦ Advanced Interpretation in Practice
♦ Specialisation in Translation or Interpretation
♦ Cross-cultural Communications
♦ Industry Project-Translation/Interpretation
- GCE ‘A’ Level, Higher NITEC or equivalent qualifications.
- Other qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis based on Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL), for Prior Certificated Learning (RPCL) and for Prior Experiential Learning (PPEL).
Each module of this part-time programme will be delivered over a 6-week / 8-week cycle. Classes are one 3-hour session held every Tuesday and Thursday, 7pm - 10pm.
There are eight modules that have no examinations, students will be assessed by written assignments (Group or Individual);
For the rest modules, assessments are by a combination of written assignments and examinations. Assessment Weightage may vary according to individual module requirements.
Graduation and Certificate
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded with the FY Institute of Technology (Singapore) Higher Diploma in English / Chinese Translation and Interpretation.
